Chatham has three lighthouses; Chatham Light, Stage Harbor Light, and Monomoy Point Light. This is Chatham Light and it is the only active lighthouse in Chatham. Chatham Light was built in 1877. It originally had two light towers but one was moved in 1923 to Eastham, MA and became Nauset Light. The lighthouse flashes twice to mimic when there were two lights. The US Coast Guard maintains a station at and operates Chatham Light. Tours are offered in the summer. Chatham Light is prominent in the movie, "The Finest Hours," the story of the rescue of the tanker Pendleton that broke up in a winter storm off Chatham in 1952.
A fiery night at Chatham Lighthouse.
