Chatham has three lighthouses; Chatham Light, Stage Harbor Light, and Monomoy Point Light, this is Stage Harbor Light. Stage Harbor Light is Cape Cod's youngest lighthouse having been built in 1880. The light was deactivated in 1933 and the light removed and replaced with an automated tower. The light was deactivated because the Cape Cod Canal was built in 1914 and large ships no longer had the need to pass by. The light can be accessed by walking along the beach at Harding's Beach or by a sandy path. The path is beautiful in all seasons but in the Spring it is lined by fragrant beach roses. If it isn't clear, walking to and photographing Stage Harbor Light is one of my favorite pastimes regardless of the weather or season.
Stage Harbor Light as seen from Sears Road in Chatham, MA. If you go there is very limited parking at Sears Road.
